The Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn baseball team continued to impress by winning a pair of tough War Eagle Conference road games last week, defeating Sergeant Bluff-Luton 5-2, and then taking out archrival Le Mars Gehlen 5-1.
Will Hanson got the pitching win for the Eagles against SB-L, allowing two runs on six scattered hits, and five walks, with a whopping 13 strikeouts in seven innings of work.
Jake Wimmer took the mound loss for the host Warriors, giving up five runs on nine hits and no walks, with four Ks in seven innings.
Jesse Kunzweiler swung the big bat for the victorious Eagles, with a three-run double in the second inning with two outs and two strikes. Jordan Petersen, Blaine Dammann, and Hanson were each 2-4 for MMC, with runs scored. Petersen slammed two doubles.
"It's good to see the bottom of the order coming through," said MMC coach Al Vasher. "Will threw and excellent game on the mound, and the defense came through with some huge plays."
Jacob Lehnhoff got the pitching win over Gehlen, allowing one run on five hits and two walks, with a dominating 14 strikeouts in seven innings of work.
Petersen and Damman each had two hits for MMC, with Petersen lacing a double and scoring a run.
"Our pitching and defense has done a great job of keeping us in ball games," noted coach Vasher. "Our hitting is starting to come around. We need to do a better job of hitting with two strikes."
MMC hosts West Sioux Friday night.
