Aurelia softball girls split games

Thursday, June 11, 2009

The Aurelia High School softball team had two non-conference games last week, and came away with a split, beating Ruthven-Ayrshire on the road on Wednesday by a 10-6 score before losing at home to Clay Central-Everly on Thursday, 7 -3.

At Ruthven-Ayrshire, Bulldog pitcher Erin Laursen struck out eight batters and didn't issue a walk, allowing just two earned runs to gain the win.

Heather Ballantyne led the Bulldog hitters, collecting three hits in the game, scoring twice, and driving in one run; Courtney Bruce had two hits and scored a run; and Kristun Tabler and Amber Loucks each scored twice. Winning pitcher Laursen didn't have any hits, but stole two bases and scored a run to help her cause.

Against Clay Central-Everly on Thursday, in another non-conference match-up, the Bulldogs got down 5-0, and couldn't come back quite enough. Erin Laursen again pitched a complete game, allowing only one earned run, but Bulldog miscues in the field created an obstacle the team was unable to overcome.

Laursen also struck out six and walked three, and also led the Bulldogs at the plate with two hits. Heather Ballantyne also contributed two base knocks to the Bulldogs' team total of seven.
