HWC blanks young Cherokee team

HULL - The young Cherokee Washington High softball squad was blanked 10-0 in six innings by a talented Hull Western Christian Wolfpack in Lakes Conference action here Monday night.

Kelsey Ludwig took the mound loss for Cherokee, allowing eight earned runs on 10 hits and three walks, with four strikeouts in six innings of work.

Autumn Shaefer led the Cherokee bats with a 2-3 outing. The closest the WHS gals came to scoring was in the fifth inning when Amanda Kohn led off with a single and advanced to to third on two consecutive groundouts, before a third groundout ended the threat.

Horstman got the pitching win for HWC, limiting Cherokee to seven scattered hits and striking out nine. Kooiker and Heyron were each 2-3 for the Wolfpack, with Kooiker totaling three RBI, and Heyron scoring three runs.

HWC moves on with a 4-2 record, and a 3-2 Lakes Conference mark, while Cherokee stands at 1-6, and 0-3 in the league.

Cherokee plays in the Le Mars Invitational Tournament Thursday and Friday and at Sheldon Monday night.
