Marcus Food Bank needs donations

Thursday, June 18, 2009

MARCUS - Rachel Holmes received the items for the Marcus Food Bank collected last Friday only to note there are over 20 families in need of help.

Sharing with needy - Peace Lutheran Church of Marcus held Vacation Bible School last week, and the students brought food items and other supplies for needy families of the community. The food bank is at its lowest inventory since beginning several months ago. Folks may stop and pick up needed items on Wednesday evening and Saturday mornings.

Holmes also mentioned that they could use a few more volunteers to man the site. Anyone interested my call Sandy Poppens at 376-4556, or Holmes at 376-4587, or at her work phone at 376-4318.

Some suggested items to donate include: canned fruit, box dinners such as hamburger or tuna helpers, rice, cereal, peanut butter, jelly, laundry and/or dish soap, canned meat such as tuna and chicken, jello, pudding, noodles and pastas, sauce such as mayo, ketchup, spaghetti and dressings, tooth paste, toilet paper, shampoo & conditioner, soups, juice such as apple, grape, tomato and juicy juice, butter or margarine, cheese either singles or shredded.

In addition to these items, folks have donated some clothing items. The newly formed food bank has been an answer to some people's needs and much appreciated. One can drop items off during the hours they are open from 6 to 8 p.m. or on Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m.
