The qualifying continued at a rapid pace Thursday for the 75th annual Cherokee Sioux Valley Amateur Match-Play Golf Tournament scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, at the venerable Cherokee Golf & Country Club.
Cherokee native Jeff Campbell of Niles, Ohio is the defending Sioux Valley Amateur Champion, defeating 2008 qualifying Medalist Kent Schroeder of Mapleton in the final Championship match last year. Campbell, who automatically has a berth in the Championship Flight as defending Champion, carded a 76 in qualifying rounds Wednesday afternoon.
Schroeder has already qualified for this year's Championship Flight, firing a sizzling 67 last week to take a dominating lead in the 2009 Medalist's race.

Qualifying for this year's memorable 75th Northwest Iowa Classic runs through 3 p.m. today. The $75 entry fee offers golfers 18 holes for a practice round, and 18 holes qualifying. The last qualifying tee-off times are 1 p.m. for 18 holes, and 3 p.m. for nine holes.
As always, there will be 16 golfers to a flight, with the Championship and First Flight playing 18-hole matches, and flights 2-7 playing 9-hole matches.
The Sioux Valley Amateur Match-Play winner gains a leg on the Frank Greenwood Memorial Trophy, and the Medalist wins a $300 award.
All qualifiers missing the cut for the Sioux Valley Amateur automatically qualify for the Consolation Tournament Saturday, June 27. That also is a match-play format consisting of flighted 9-hole matches.
As usual, there are many exciting prizes and gifts awaiting the golfers, including several appropriate golfers' gifts for all qualifiers when they register.
