Youthful Cherokee softball team has growing pains

Friday, June 19, 2009

Just two juniors and no seniors provide a shortage of veteran team leaders for the 2009 Cherokee Washington High softball team under the direction of coach Cara Lubeck.

The WHS club also will pitch by committee this season as the young arms adjust to the rigors of Lakes Conference softball.

Junior Kelsey Ludwig and freshman Katie Sambrano will see a majority of mound action, with sophomores Jenna Phipps and Autumn Shaefer also expected to appear on the hill at times.

Sophomore catcher Sarah Ruehle will do most of the catching this season, with 8th graders Megan Hummel and Megan Carlson, and freshmen Shannon Shaefer and Taylor Woods seeing a lot of action in the infield. Junior Amanda Kohn, and freshmen Brooke Luetkeman, Clare Tuttle, and Jackie Wilson also will see plenty of action as the season progresses.
