Skilled nucleus leads South O'Brien baseball

Friday, June 19, 2009

PAULLINA - The South O'Brien baseball team will rely on a skilled nucleus of experienced varsity players for the 2009 season.

Leading that cast are War Eagle Conference first-team pick outfielder Andy Puhrmann, second team selections pitcher Ryan Brasser and catcher Aaron Giese, and WEC honorable mention outfielders Mike Faust and Jarod Syndergaard, and infielder Jesus Garcia.

In addition, Brasser was a second team Class 2A pick by the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association.

Brasser will again lead the Wolverines' pitching staff under coach Justin Mohning, with Faust, Pete Matthews, Syndergaard, and Chas Biery also expecting mound duty.

Other upper classmen impacting the squad are Derek Friedrichsen, Trevor Lansink, and sophomore Jimmy Callahan.

A talented group of freshmen also stand ready, incliding Adam Paulsen, Zane Roberts, Tanner Matthews, Tim Jenness, Cole Ebel, Austin Sweeny, and Nate Struve.
