AURELIA - The Aurelia High School softball team hosted Storm Lake St. Mary's in Northwest Conference action here on Wednesday night, and were held to five hits and a single run as they lost to the Panthers in six innings, 12-1.
Kristun Tabler led the Bulldogs with two hits and losing pitcher Audrey Winterhof scored the Bulldogs' only run. Winterhof struck out two and walked two, allowing just four earned runs.
Following a disappointing 14-0 blanking by Galva-Holstein/Schaller-Crestland on Thursday (see corresponding story), the Bulldog girls hosted another tough squad, Sioux Central, in Northwest Conference action on Monday night.
Audrey Winterhof again took the mound for coach Tim Galvin's Bulldog team, and while the junior-to-be struck out five Rebel batters and walked just two, Sioux Central was able to score seven earned runs and another five of the unearned variety. The 12 runs allowed the Rebels to post a 12- 1 win over the Bulldogs in a six-inning game.
rin Laursen collected two of the Bulldog girls' five hits, with Heather Ballantyne, Kerstin Tuttle, and Winterhof producing the others.
The Bulldog girls travel to Correctionville on Thursday for a non-conference match-up with #1-ranked Woodbury Central, then host Laurens-Marathon in a makeup Northwest Conference game on Friday.
