Lady Pirates tumble to #1 Wildcats

Friday, June 26, 2009
MOVILLE -The Galva-Holstein/Schaller-Crestland softball team played a very tough Woodbury Central team here on Wednesday night and trailed by a score of 7-4 as WC came to bat in the bottom of the 4th inning. The bats of the #1 Wildcats then came to life, and when Woodbury Central pitcher Randi Ebert slugged a homer, it capped off a 10-run inning and a 17-4 Western Vlley Conference win for Woodbury Central.

Taking the loss on the mound for the Lady Pirates was Michaela Else, who pitched three innings and gave up 12 runs on 11 hits, with four walks and no strikeouts.

Leading GHSC hitters were Brea Slaybaugh, who went 2-3 with a double, an RBI and a run scored, and Ashley Buell , who went 1-2 with two RBI and a run scored. Jaime Christensen, the Lady Pirates' outstanding hurler, has been attending Girls State, and has been absent from the team all week.

GHSC is now 17-8 overall and 9-4 in the conference. The Lady Pirates travel to Sloan to play Westwood tonight (Friday), then compete in a tournament at Alta on Saturday.
