MARSHALLTOWN - Nearly 800 youth from around the state, including 40 from the Nortyhwest Iiowa area, participated in the recent Hershey State Track Meet in Marshalltown after previously qualifying at the local meet sponsored by Cherokee Parks & Recreation Department.
Those athletes finishing 10th place or better at the state meet include:
Girls 9-10: 3rd- 4 x 100 meter relay team of Emily Westphal, Alayne Graybill, Rylee Gannon, Kylie Mongan all of Cherokee.
Girls 11-12: 9th- 100 meter dash- Brooke Hunwardsen, Lawton. 5th -200 meter dash ˝ Hunwardsen. 9th- 4 x 100 meter relay team of Jennifer Baker, Kacie Weiland, Hayley Graybill, Jasmine Ramirez all of Cherokee. 2nd ˝ Long jump- Karlene Negus, Sutherland. 9th- Softball throw- Savanna Snyder, Holstein.
Girls 13-14: 5th- 800 Meter run- Nicole Snyder, Holstein. 3rd- 4 x 100 Meter relay team of Kaley Tewes, Emmali Sweeney, Kendra Rohlfsen all of Sutherland and Hannah Schueder, Paullina. 2nd- Softball throw- Emmali Sweeney.
Boys 9-10: 1st-50 meter dash - Matt Saunders, Peterson. 7th- 4 x 100 Meter relay team of Christopher Wharton, Kade Jurgenson, Collin Lundy, Tyler Richardson all of Cherokee. 7th- Softball throw- Andrew Faust, Paullina.
Boys 11-12: 8th- 100 Meter dash ˝ Devyn Hember, Quimby. 6th- 800 Meter run- Ben Aberson, Paullina. 1st- Softball throw- T.J. Hockenson, Cherokee.
Boys 13-14: 3rd ˝Softball throw- Michael Rosewall, Cherokee. Congratulations to all the athletes who participated at the state level. Special recognition goes to those finishing in first place, Matt Saunders and T.J. Hockenson, who may be eligible to participate in the Hershey Nationals in Hershey, Pennsylvania after results are tallied at other state meets coming up in the Midwest region.
