The Cherokee County Board of Supervisors met in regular session on Tuesday, with Mark Leeds, Dean Schmidt, and Larry Prunty present. Jeff Simonsen and Terry Graybill were absent.
Clarence Hoffman, Iowa Communities Assurance Pool (ICAP), reviewed insurance trends and the strong financial stability of the ICAP program. Tom Rutter announced his retirement from Central Bank Insurance and introduced Scott Weber as his replacement to service the county's insurance coverage.
Todd Elemond of Cherokee visited the meeting and requested to be considered for the open position of Veteran Affairs Commissioner, to replace current Commissioner Jim Warrender, who is relocating to Indiana. The supervisors thanked Elemond for his interest in serving veterans and advised him that they will appoint a new VA Commissioner at their next regular meeting on Tuesday.
Motion by Leeds, seconded by Prunty to approve fireworks permits per Iowa Code Chapter 727.2 for Doug Ockerman in Pitcher Twp, Bradley Jungers in Pitcher Twp, Debbie Robb in Afton Twp, and Michelle Lucero in Afton Twp. Motion carried.
