Larrabee Fun Day returns today

Friday, June 26, 2009
LARRABEE - As part of gearing up for the 2012 Larrabee Quasquicentennial, the town is bringing back an "oldie but goodie."

After a 12-year absence, "Larrabee Fun Day" returns today. The event will take place in downtown Larrabee, and will feature a beer garden, and concessions by The Branding Iron.

From 9 p.m. until approximately midnight, the band "Slick Gin" will take the stage to provide music for people's listening and/or dancing pleasure. Slick Gin features Jason Borkowski on guitar and vocals, Steve Sobolik on drums and vocals, and Mike Sporleder on bass and harmony vocals. The three man band from Boone recently broke away from another band to start their own. Slick Gin found its identity in March, They were playing at Jake's Lounge in Aurelia as a "no name band" one night when a man sitting at the bar suggested the name to them.

All ages are welcome, The town hopes to start off the fundraising for the 2012 Quasquicentennial celebration on the right foot, and the $5 charge at the gate Friday night will be put towards Quasquincentennial activities such as old fashioned carnival games, a band for a dance, a parade, the All-School Reunion, and a fun run.
