AURELIA - The young Aurelia Bulldog girls won a close Northwest Conference game against Laurens-Marathon here on Friday by a score of 5-4.

Winning pitcher Erin Laursen struck out eight and didn't walk a batter and also helped her cause at the plate. The senior-to-be had a 3-3 night, drove in one run, scored another, and also stole three bases. Steph Stange also swiped three bases, and scored two of the Bulldogs' four runs. Courtney Bruce and Lexi Tuttle had two base knocks apiece for coach Tim Galvin's Bulldog team.

The two teams went at it again three nights later, this time on the Chargers' field in Laurens, and the result was the same, a Bulldog victory. This time out, Laursen was again the winning hurler and she again issued no bases on balls. She got a little more support offensively on Monday, though, as the Bulldogs scored 15 runs in taking a 15-4 victory.

Laursen again had three hits at the plate, scored twice, drove in two and stole four bases. Audrey Winterhof also collected three hits, and she scored three times and drove in five. Lexi Tuttle and Kerstin Tuttle each had two hits. Aurelia now sports a 2-12 record.

The Bulldogs play games every night this week. Following a Tuesday contest at Sioux Central, they host the tough Newell-Fonda team on Wednesday and Ruthven-Ayrshire on Thursday, before going on the road to Storm Lake St. Mary's on Friday.
