CORRECTIONVILLE - The tough week continued for the Galva-Holstein/Schaller-Crestland softball team as they went down in defeat to a very fired-up River Valley team by the score of 4-3 here on Thursday night.
Taking the loss on the mound was Dana Hustedt, who pitched all seven innings and gave up five hits and one earned run, walking four and striking out four.
Lindsey Joslin went 2-4 at the plate, with two runs scored and a stolen base; Brooke Wiese was 1-3 with an RBI; Brea Slaybaugh had a double and a stolen base, and Brittany Ridder had a double.
The GHSC coaches were disappointed in their team's effort, but happy with "how we put the ball into play and how hard we hit the ball, " said Coach Scott Phelps. "River Valley just made some nice plays, and we just couldn't get anything going. "
GHSC is now 17-9 overall and 9-5 in the conference.
Kelli Miller got the pitching win for River Valley, allowing three runs on seven hits and two walks, with three strikeouts. Miller also drove in two runs with a single.
Other RV hits came from Amber Bauer, Kari Ludvigson, Jess Fundermann, Amanda Miller, Mackenzie Fitch, and Sarah Byers.
"We finally did everything we possibly could right tonight and came out on top," said RV coach Erika Jenness. "It was a battle until the end, but the girls gave it their all and came home with a win. We needed the confidence. It was an eventful game."
