GALVA - The Galva-Holstein/Schaller-Crestland softball defeated Battle Creek-Ida Grove by the score of 5-1 in Western Valley Conference action here on Monday.
Getting the victory on the mound was Jaime Christensen, who gave up six hits and allowed no earned runs. Christensen had two strikeouts and issued no walks.
Leading the way at the plate for GHSC were Brea Slaybaugh, who went 2-4, scored a run, and stole two bases; and Brittany Ridder, who went 2-3 with a double. Brooke Wiese, Roxanne Grundmeier and Heather and Lindsey Joslin all had RBI for the Lady Pirates.
GHSC coach Scott Phelps said, "The coaches were happy about how well we started the game tonight by scoring four runs in the bottom of the first and playing solid defense the rest of the game. Our kids continue to hustle and show good effort and that's all we can ask of them."
GHSC is now 19-11 overall and 10-6 in conference play. They play Odebolt-Arthur tonight in Early, then travel to Storm Lake St. Mary's on Thursday and Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn on Friday for non-conference match-ups.
