Family graveside services for Dr. Daniel Carson Bowman, 70, a former school administrator in Iowa, were held at 10 a.m., Monday, June 29, in Missouri. Burial was in Wakenda Cemetery near Hardin, Mo., under the arrangements of Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond, Mo. Dr. Bowman died on Saturday, June 27, 2009, at the Lexington Care Center in Lexington, Mo., after a brief illness. Condolences may be sent to Donna Schannuth, Box 336, Oakwood, Hardin, Mo. 64035.
Dr. Bowman was born Nov. 27, 1938, in Rockingham, Mo., to Gene and Hazel (Falls) Bowman. He graduated from Stet High School at Stet, Mo. and went on to earn several degrees of higher education, including his Doctorate of Education degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1977. He taught industrial arts in Browning, Mo., before serving as the vice principal at Mt. Pleasant High School in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, from 1969 to 1974. He was superintendent of the Willow Schools at Quimby and Washta from 1975 to 1987. Dr. Bowman married Judy Logan on June 1, 1974, at Mt. Pleasant. They separated in 1987 and were later divorced.
Most recently, Dr. Bowman resided in Independence, Mo. He was known for his wood-working skills. He was a member of the Rockingham Church of the Brethren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his infant twin brother, Donald Curtis Bowman. Survivors include: one sister and brother-in-law, Donna and Albert Schannuth of Hardin, Mo.; one nephew, Kelly Schannuth of Hardin, Mo.; one niece, Kathy Leakey and her husband, Todd, and their son, Cole, all of Hardin, Mo.; and a lifelong friend, Judy Bowman of Le Mars.
