Red Cross gives county recognitions and awards

The Cherokee County American Red Cross held their annual dinner meeting recently at Danny's Sport Spot. The committee reports of the activities in Cherokee County for the 2009 Fiscal Year were given.

A report was also made by Tammy Lee Director of the Siouxland Chapter of American Red Cross. She gave updates and highlights of the One Red Cross.

The focus for the evening was on recognition and awards: Years of Volunteer Service to the Cherokee County Red Cross recognition and pins were given to:Jeanine Schroeder, 10 years; Nels and Joyce Johnson, 25 years and Jim Staver, 30 years.

Heroes Campaign Awards were given by Bob Kirschbaum of Siouxland to:Alan Julius, accepting for Tim Haupert of the Cherokee HyVee Food Store and Neil Phipps of Washington High School Athletic Teams. Also recognized but not present: Jerry Menke of Tyson Deli, Doug Miller of United Food and Commercial Workers Union Local 179 , and Deb Bagenstos of River Valley Elementary School.

The Heroes Campaign is a Fund Raising Campaign for the American Red Cross, and these Heroes were recognized for leading the effort in Cherokee County to assist our local Red Cross efforts.
