NYFL Summer Camps scheduled

Thursday, July 2, 2009

Jim Demers, the Executive Director of Sports That You Deserve and President of the Northwest Youth Football League , has sent along this information, addressed to area youth.

Area Youth,

It is time to begin preparing for the 2009 Football Season! There are two youth football camps being offered this summer through Sports That You Deserve and the NYFL. Both camp opportunities are open to all players in grades 3-6 (2009-2010 school year) and all positions.

This camp is going to stress the basic fundamentals of the game and that begins with blocking and tackling. This 3-day camp will spend 9 hours (3 hours per day) working the fundamentals of blocking and tackling. The camp will be held in Storm Lake. We will use football helmets and shoulder pads for this camp. NYFL players will be provided with a helmet and shoulder pads. If you are not a member of the NFYL, you will need to provide your own equipment. There must be a minimum of 50 athletes registered for this camp by July 19. We are very fortunate to have the opportunity to have Buena Vista Beavers Head Football Coach Jay Anderson and Newell-Fonda Mustang Head Football Coach Brian Wilken teaching/coaching at this camp. Their knowledge and expertise will truly be an asset to our program. Following the Blocking and Tackling camp, we will begin using our newly acquired skills for the 7-on-7 Passing League.

The purpose of the 7 on 7 Passing League is to provide 3-6 grade football players with a structured league where they can develop their skills and compete during the off-season. This camp will be held in Marcus. It's a fun, competitive way to play non-contact football. The all-passing game is played on a 40-yard field plus end zone and allows scoring on both the offense and defense. Passing and catching take a great deal of practice to master. I strongly encourage all positions to participate. This camp will be great for linemen too and for you linemen, this is your chance to catch the ball and score a touchdown. Participating in a 7-on-7 league offers athletes an exceptional, competitive way to hone their skills. A minimum of 28 players in each age division is required. Deadline for registering for this camp is July 31.

I realize that summer is going by fast. Please take note of the deadlines. They are approaching quickly. The NYFL strongly encourages all players to participate in both of these camps. I truly believe the camps will help our 3-6 grade football players reach a higher level of achievement, both physically and mentally. Take advantage of these camps and register today.
