Monday night, the Lady Pirates beat Battle Creek-Ida Grove 5-1 in Galva.
GHSC scored eight times in the 6th inning to break open what had been a tight game against K-P.
Picking up the win on the mound was Jaime Christensen, who pitched all seven innings, giving up six hits while walking two and striking out one. Lindsey Joslin led the Lady Pirates' hitting attack, going 3-4 with a double and an RBI. Roxanne Grundmeier went 1-2 with a big triple and four RBI; Brooke Wiese also slugged a triple and had 3 RBI; Brittany Ridder went 2-3 and Heather Joslin had an RBI.
GHSC coach Scot Phelps said, "The coaches were happy with the 13 hits, and how the kids continue to put together a big inning every game."
Getting the victory on the mound in the win over BCIG was Jaime Christensen, who gave up six hits and allowed no earned runs. Christensen had two strikeouts and issued no walks.
Leading the way at the plate for GHSC were Brea Slaybaugh, who went 2-4, scored a run, and stole two bases; and Brittany Ridder, who went 2-3 with a double. Brooke Wiese, Roxanne Grundmeier and Heather and Lindsey Joslin all had RBI for the Lady Pirates.
GHSC coach Scott Phelps said, "The coaches were happy about how well we started the game tonight by scoring four runs in the bottom of the first and playing solid defense the rest of the game. Our kids continue to hustle and show good effort and that's all we can ask of them."
GHSC improved to 20-11 overall and 11-6 in the conference with the win. GHSC hosted Odebolt-Arthur at Early on Wednesday and travels to Storm Lake tonight for a non-conference game with St. Mary's. On Friday, they have another non-conference match-up, this time with the War Eagle Conference Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn Eagles, at Marcus.
