Contributors to 4-H Foundation sought

Monday, July 6, 2009

The Cherokee County 4-H Foundation Board of Directors is launching their nineteenth annual fund drive, according to Bruce Amundson, board president. Funds collected are used to support and promote many activities and programs offered to youth and 4-H'ers in Cherokee County. Ribbons, trophies and premium money are awarded to 4-H'ers exhibiting livestock, home economics, science, engineering, agriculture, natural resources and visual arts projects at the Cherokee County and Marcus Fairs.T-shirts are provided to first year livestock exhibitors. At the annual 4-H Awards Night in November, the 4-H Foundation awards T-shirts to outstanding 4-H'ers in many project areas, the "I Dare You" leadership awards, as well as achievement, communication, project, and record keeping awards. They also honor the many volunteers who provide valuable support and leadership to the youth of Cherokee County. The 2009 goal is to increase the number of donations to better support existing programs, initiate new ones, as well as provide adequate premiums for fair exhibitors. Last year, 168 organizations, businesses and individuals throughout Cherokee County contributed to the 4-H Foundation. These contributors and the Foundation Board would like to invite others to join them in providing opportunities for Cherokee County youth to develop important, long lasting life skills. 4-H offers a wide range of projects, all with an emphasis on leadership and community service. Along with developing character and acquiring knowledge, 4-H youth also build life skills. Such skills as communication, decision making, problem solving, gathering information, managing resources and working with others are important for success in school, in personal relations, and in careers. If you would like to become a part of this worthwhile organization, contact one of the members of the board or call the Cherokee County Extension Office at (712) 225-6196. Members of the 4-H Foundation Board include Amundson, Chuck Clark, Micky Conley, Earl Cresap, Don Drefke, and Jack Shea.
