ESTHERVILLE - A quality Estherville-LC softball team shut out youthful Cherokee 7-0 in Lakes Conference softball action here Wednesday night.

Midget pitcher Katie Bosch struck out 12 Cherokee batters in her seven innings of work, while allowing no runs on three hits and one walk.

Cherokee hurler Kelsey Ludwig gave up seven runs on 16 hits and three walks and two wild pitches in six innings of work.

Megan Carlson, Autumn Shaefer, and Jackie Wilson had the hits for Cherokee. The Washington High girls threatened to score in the sixth inning after Shannon Shaefer walked and moved to second base on Carlson's single. Both runners were then stranded on a ground-out.

Brooke Egeland led E-LC at the plate with two hits and three RBI, and Ashley Weston was 3-3 with three runs scored and one RBI.

"The team played great defense tonight," said Cherokee coach Cara Lubeck. "This was the best game defensively they have played all season with no errors."

Cherokee, now 2-22 over all and 1-12 in Lakes Conference play, hosts Sheldon tonight to end the regular season, and begins District Tournament action Thursday.
