EARLY - The Galva-Holstein/Schaller-Crestland softball girls lost a heart breaker to Odebolt-Arthur on Wednesday night at Early, losing by the score of 6-5 in 10 innings.
Ace GHSC hurler Jaime Christensen pitched all 10 innings, and gave up 10 hits and six runs, three of them earned. Christensen walked two and struck out five. Leading the Lady Pirates' 13- hit attack were Heather Joslin, who went 3-5 with an RBI; Roxanne Grundmeier, who went 3-5 , scored twice and stole a base; Lindsey Joslin, who tripled and drove in a run; Sydney Shell, who also had a triple and an RBI; Dana Hustedt had a double and an RBI, and Brea Slaybaugh also had a double.
Coach Scott Phelps said he was very proud of his team, and how hard they fought throughout the game.
After trailing 5-1, the Lady Pirates didn't give up and had chances to win, "but just couldn't get a break or the big hit when we needed it.," said Phelps.
GHSC finishes the conference season with an11-7 conference record, and are now 20-12 overall. The Lady Pirates begin Class 2A Regional Tournament play on Thursday, July 9, at Galva, when they take on East Sac County in first round action, with the first pitch scheduled at 7 p.m.
