Tuesday night, coach Tim Galvin's Aurelia team traveled to Peterson to take on Sioux Central, and the Bulldogs were no-hit and shut out by the Rebels, losing 12-0 in 4 innings. Erin Laursen pitched for the Bulldogs, and she struck out one, walked one and gave up six earned runs.
The following night, the Bulldogs faced the unenviable task of taking on defending state champion Newell-Fonda in a doubleheader at Aurelia. The Mustangs swept the Bulldogs by identical scores of 12-0, with one game lasting three innings and the other four.
Aurelia totaled one hit for the two games, that by Kristun Tabler in the 4-inning loss. Audrey Winterhof also had two steals in that game. Erin Lauresn pitched both games for Aurelia, with one strikeout and two walks in one game and two strikeouts and one walk in the other. Only 14 of N-F's 24 runs were earned.
On Thursday, the Bulldog girls again hosted a game on their field, but this time, things went much better for Aurelia. The Bulldog girls collected 11 hits on their way to a 10-7 non-conference win over Ruthven-Ayrshire, with Audrey Winterhof, Erin Laursen, Kristun Tabler and Lexi Tuttle having two hits apiece. Heather Ballantyne, Gracie Winterhof, and Amanda Felten had the other Bulldog hits. Laursen scored two runs and drove in three; Tabler scored two and drove in two; and Lexi Tuttle also had two RBI.
Erin Laursen got the win on the mound, as she gave up four earned runs, struck out three and didn't walk anyone.
The Bulldog girls, who have posted three wins in the last week, start down the tournament trail tonight (Wednesday) when they face Remsen-Union at Kingsley. First pitch is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
