Cherokee, South O'Brien games postponed to Friday

GALVA - The Galva-Holstein/Schaller-Crestland softball team started their tournament run on the right foot here Thursday night by defeating a quality East Sac County team by the score of 5-0. Picking up the win on the mound for GHSC was Jaime Christensen, who gave up three singles while striking out two and walking none. Leading the 11- hit attack for GHSC were: Roxanne Grundmeier, who went 2-4 with two RBI and a stolen base; Brooke Wiese, who went 2-4 with a double and an RBI; Emily Schiernbeck, who went 2-3 with a double and an RBI; Dana Hustedt , who went 2-2 with a triple, and Michaela Else, who went 1-3 with an RBI. GHSC coach Scott Phelps said the coaches were extremely happy with how well the defense continues to play, and how well they are playing as a team "from top to bottom."

GHSC now sports a 23-13 record in their first season as a shared program, and they played Carroll Kuemper, an 8-0 victor over Battle Creek - Ida Grove, in the second round of the Class 2A Regional on Friday at Carroll.

In other 2A first-round games involving area teams, Cherokee's game at Peterson against Sioux Central and South O'Brien's game at Paullina against Hinton were both rained out and postponed until Friday.
