Hanson, Lehnhoff shut down Mustangs
GRANVILLE - The 10th-ranked Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn baseball team clipped a solid George-Little Rock club 3-1 in a Class 1A District Tournament baseball opener here Tuesday night.

The 22-2 Eagles of coach Al Vasher rode the superb pitching performance of Will Hanson, who struck out eight Mustang batters before being relieved by Jacob Lehnhoff in the sixth inning with the game tied at 1-1. Hanson walked none and gave up just three hits in the game, and one lone run in the third inning. Lehnhoff gave up no hits and no runs while striking out three of the six batters he faced to get the save.
MMC tallied one run in the first, and two in the sixth inning to seal the deal in a well-played game by both teams.
Lehnhoff tallied three hits and an intentional walk for a perfect 3-3 night, and scored the Eagles' first run in the first inning after singling and scoring on a timely triple off the bat of Jordan Petersen.
Hanson and Jordan Boekhout each singled and later scored in the sixth inning after Ethan Radtke arrived on a two-base error. Radtke also singled in the fourth for the Eagles.

MMC next plays Central Lyon at 7 p.m. today in Granville. Central Lyon nicked Granville Spalding 3-2 in an eight-inning thriller in the second game here Tuesday night.
