Louise Dunn, 99, of Spencer, a former Okoboji and Cherokee resident, passed away Thursday, July 16, 2009 at the St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer. A private burial took place in Oak Hill Cemetery in Cherokee, and a memorial service will be held at a later date.The Boothby Funeral Home of Cherokee has charge of the arrangements. Louise was born Nov. 30, 1909 at Larrabee, to Albert and Martha (Kumleh) Denslow. She graduated from Larrabee High School and then worked as a monument designer for Holden Monument Co. in Cherokee. Louise was married to James Dunn on Nov 24, 1933 at Clarinda, and the couple made their home in Cherokee until they retired, moving to West Lake Okoboji and spending winters in Nokomis, Fla., where Louise taught bridge classes.

Louise was a lifetime member of the Memorial Presbyterian Church, a member of the Garden Club , and a 71-year member of the Order of Eastern Star. She was known for her flower arrangements and bridge playing skills and was an avid reader, but her home and family came first.

Louise was preceded in death by her husband, James Dunn, on April 21, 1980, and a grandson Mitchell Dunn. She is survived by two sons: James Dunn of Plano, Texas and Charles Dunn and his wife Diane of Spirit Lake; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
