Elmer Frederick Reinholdt was born Jan. 22, 1923, on a farm south of Remsen, to August and Anna (Miller) Reinholdt. He attended Henry Township number 2 and 4 country school through eighth grade, then went on to attend Union High School, graduating in 1943. Elmer worked as a farmer his entire life.
On Aug. 16, 1958, Elmer and Thelma Briggs were united in marriage at Grace United Methodist Church in Marcus. The couple farmed 15 miles south of Marcus until they retired in Dec. 1978, and moved to Marcus. After his wife Thelma passed away in July of 2004, he spent two years living between his children's homes. After that, he spent time at the Heartland Care Center in Marcus. The final two years of his life were spent at the Methodist Manor in Storm Lake, Iowa.
Elmer was a fifty-year member of the Grace United Methodist Church of Marcus. When he wasn't farming, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and trapping with his boys. Visiting with relatives and playing card games with friends were other enjoyments of his. In his retirement years, Elmer spent many hours in Marcus coffee shops.
He was preceded in death by his wife Thelma, his parents, and his brothers Harry and Clarence Reinholdt.
He will be lovingly remembered by his children, Diane Allen and her husband Gary of Storm Lake, Roger Reinholdt and his wife Brenda of Peculiar, Mo., and Brian Reinholdt and his wife Jina of Shawnee, Kan., four granddaughters, Erica Allen, Angela and Paige Reinholdt and Michelle Reinholdt, his sisters, Florence Heimgartner of Le Mars, Dorothy Rumohr of Rogers, Ariz., a brother Walter and his wife Violet Reinholdt of Lawton and sisters-in-law Esther Eikenhorst of Le Mars, Mae Reinholdt of Le Mars, and MaryJo Briggs of Marcus.
