2009 Summer Iowa Games

Several athletes from Cherokee County competed in the recent Summer Iowa Games, including Grant Leavitt from Marcus, who competed on the Bombers team in 5 - on - 5 basketball in the adult male division; Thomas Hockenson of Cherokee, whose Adm Tigers baseball team took second place in the 12 and Under Boys division; Cherokee's Deb Hankens, who competed in the Cycling Time Trials for 50-59 year-olds; Cleghorn's Beth McDermott, who shot an 18-hole score of 104 to take second in the 40-49 female division of golf; Cherokee's Kelsey Essick and Larrabee's Lacie Drennan, who placed fourth in women's volleyball; Aurelia's John Tuttle, who placed fourth in Bracket 7 of 5th and 6th Grade folkstyle wrestling; Aurelia's Taylan Entriken who took 4th in Bracket 7 of 5th and 6th folkstyle wrestling; Cherokee's Zac Anderson, 4th place in Bracket 12 of 9th-12th grade folkstyle wrestling; Aurelia's Taylor Witzel, 4th place in Bracket 16 of 9th-12th grade folkstyle wrestling; Marcus' Rodney Ebert, who shot an 18-hole score of 94 to take 8th place in the Mens' 50-59 golf; Marcus' Nathan Wendt, who shot a 92 to place 8th in Junior boys' golf (age 16-18); Cherokee's Shane Clussen, who finished 99th in the Unlimited Compound with Pin M Archery competition; and Marcus' Blaine Dammann and Jordan Boekhout, who scored 118 and 120, respectively, in 36-hole Intermediate Disc Golf.
