Plains Area Mental Health Center's accreditation renewed

Friday, August 7, 2009

Patrick Schmitz
It is with great pride that Patrick Schmitz, Executive Director, announced the re-accredidation of Plains Area Mental Health Center as a Community Mental Health Center by the Iowa Department of Human Services, Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities Commission.

Accreditation is granted based on the finding of the evaluation of the Center's compliance with the Iowa Department of Human Services' standards for Community Mental Health Centers.

This accreditation is for three years and covers the Outpatient Psychotherapy and Counseling, Emergency, and Evaluation services which the Center provides. The accreditation outcome represents the highest level of accreditation that is awarded to an organization that exhibits substantial fulfillment of the standards established by the Iowa Department of Human Services. This means that the programs of Plains Area are of the highest quality.

Plains Area Mental Health Center is a nonprofit organization with its main office located in Le Mars. Satellite offices are located in Cherokee, Ida Grove, Storm Lake and Orange City. The Center has been providing a variety of outpatient mental health services for 37 years.

"While the certificate of accreditation is in the name of Plains Area Mental Health Center, it is, of course, the staff of Plains Area who have earned this achievement", Mr. Schmitz said. We hope that all Northwest Iowans who use Plains Area Mental Health Center will share in the pride we feel, and join us in thanking the staff of the Center whose dedicated work in providing high quality clinical services has earned this accreditation.
