Alice Jane Florke, 91, passed away on Aug. 5, 2009. Funeral services were held today at 11 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Sutherland with Rev. Jud Stover officiating. Interment will be at the Greenwood Cemetery in Pierson. Arrangements by Warner FuneralHome in Sutherland www.warnerfuneralhome.com Alice Jane (Petersen) Florke was born June 16, 1917, in Nausha, Minn. the daughter of Charles and Eva (Augusta) Petersen. She graduated from Pierson High School in 1936. She was married to Amil Florke on Sept. 1, 1936 near Pierson. After their marriage they farmed in the Pierson area until 1946 when they relocated to a farm near Larrabee where they farmed until retiring to Sutherland in 1970. Among her numerous achievements, she worked 16 years at MHI in Cherokee, Hospice volunteer for over 20 years, plus various church activities and community organizations.Favorite activities included, card playing, bingo, bowling and fishing. She was preceded in death by her husband Amil in 1991, two infants, parents, two brothers and two sisters. Pallbearers will be Randy and Ronnie Florke, John Scott, Ron Kaufmann, Scott Malloy and Sean Maloney. Survivors include two sons: Larry and Barbara of Defiance, Ohio and Donald and Marcia of Cherokee; four sisters: Edna, Carol, Mildred and Eunice; six grandchildren: Laurianne, Lisanne and Leanne; Renae, Randy and Ronnie; three step-grandchildren: Randy, Robbie and Greg; 22 great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. Memorials may be directed to Sanford Hospice of Sheldon in lieu of flowers. Alice was loved and adored by all.
