WHS Girls Basketball Camp a big success

Forty energetic players attended the recent Cherokee Washington High Girls Youth Basketball Camp hosted by Cherokee girls varsity coach Abby James and her staff, along with several varsity players.

The Camp focused on basketball fundamentals of shooting, passing, positioning, and ball handling, plus the rules of the game and awareness of court markings.

Game and Award winners were:

Hot Shot - Kiley Kennebeck, 3rd grade, 9 points; Kammy Briggs, 4th grade, 12 points; Josie Kindwall, 5th grade, 12 points; Kaely Hummel, 6th grade, 17 points; Kaitlan Kennebeck, 7th grade, 17 points; Josie Peterson, 8th grade, 22 points.

Knockout - Kiley Kennebeck, 3rd grade; Allie Driggs, 4th grade; Katie Gannon, 5th grade, grades 5-6; and Emily Haselhoff, 7th grade, grades 7-8.

Queen Of The Court - Kammy Briggs, grades 3-4; and Josie Kindwall, grades 5-8.

One-On-One Tournament - Payton Hagberg, grades 3-4; Kaely Hummel, grades 5-6; and Josie Peterson, grades 7-8.

Hustle Award - Addie Cosgrove, 3rd grade; Whitney Wiemold, 4th grade; Makenna Carver, 5th grade; Kaely Hummel, 6th grade; Sydney Hart, 7th grade; Makenzie Wood, 8th grade. Overall Camp Huslter, Carver.

"We had a great turnout this year, with 40 youth campers," said coach James. "It's great to see the interest in basketball rising in our youth and I hope that continues to grow as our new season approaches."

The campers also were given a black and gold basketball with a Braves logo on it, and each had their photo taken with their favorite high school player in uniform.
