Robert L. (Bob) Burns of Prescott, Arizona passed away on August 10th at the age of 83. A memorial service will be held on August 22nd at 1:30P.M. at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, 1202 Green Lane in Prescott, where he had been an active member.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church or to the Washta Cemetery Association, c/o Donna Tucker, PO Box 19, Washta, IA 51061.

Bob was born September 18, 1925 in Cherokee. During his early childhood, his family lived near Washta, Iowa, where his remains will be interred. He attended schools in Washta and in Buckhorn, Missouri, and was a graduate of Wilson High School in Cherokee. He received an AA degree from Mount SAC in Walnut, California.

Robert entered the US Army on March 22, 1944, and remained in the US Army for 30 years. He served in World War II, the Korean War, and twice in Vietnam. He retired in 1974 with the rank of CW4. His awards included three Bronze stars, the Combat Infantryman's badge, and the Legion of Merit, as well as numerous other medals.

After his retirement, Bob worked for Marshall Industries in El Monte, California, for 17 years. He and his wife, Shirley were married July 12, 1975. They resided in Hacienda Heights, California, until they moved to Prescott in 1994.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Mary (Ralston) Burns, an infant brother, his first wife, Iphigenia, and his sister, Lois (Burns) Peters.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley, and three children from his previous marriage - son, Norman (Barbara) of Ames; daughter, Sharon (Dennis) Gibson of Madrid; and Carla Jean (Edward) Hanson of Des Moines; his sister, Donna (Arlen) Tucker of Washta; 9 grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren.
