CORRECTIONVILLE - Buffalo Ridge eased to a 13-0 halftime lead and then hung on for dear life as River Valley shut the Bison out in the second half and scored a third-quarter touchdown to tighten things up before falling 13-6 in the non-district football season-opener for the neighborhood rivals.

Buffalo Ridge quarterback Seth Johnson scored two touchdowns by hooking up with receiver Blake Woodke, including a 19-yard pass play in the first quarter, and a 50-yard TD pass play in the second quarter. Johnson missed the first PAT and connected on the second.

However, River Valley made defensive adjustments at halftime and shut out the Bison the rest of the way.

The Wolverines scored their lone TD in the third quarter on a three-yard run by Cody Paris, with the PAT kick failing.

Paris led the RV rushing game with 12 carries for 102 yards and one TD. Samuel Lundt hauled it 18 times for 81 yards. Quarterback Andrew Volkert was 3-12 passing for 71 yards, with Austin Hansen catching all three for 71 yards.

Paris aalso led the Wolverines on defense with 13 tackles, while Billy Pansegrau tallied eight, and Skylar Shever five. Lundt and Volkert also had interceptions for the RV team.

Johnson completed 6-16 passes for 81 yards for the Bison, and rushed 11 times for 24 yards. Tyler Kenny carried the ball 10 times for 30 yards, and Jamie Hunecke four times for 28 yards.

Daren Miller had a whopping 20 tackles to lead the Bison defense, while Christian Bondinello totaled 13, Tyson Thorson eight, and Spencer Snyder seven.

Buffalo Ridge plays another non-district game Friday at Odebolt-Arthur/Battle Creek-Ida Grove, and River Valley has an open date and will host its annual Boosters/Media night Friday for the football, volleyball, and cross country teams.
