Hockenson is a nine-year member of the company's distribution team. He currently directs the efforts of Hy-Vee's Cherokee Distribution Center. The promotion means he will move his family to Chariton, home of the company's main distribution facility.
"Efficient movement of goods is a key part of any retail operation, and Tod has exhibited an outstanding leadership style in overseeing our Cherokee operation," said Ric Jurgens, CEO of Hy-Vee. "We are confident that he will play a key role in coordinating the many facets of a delivery system that will get product to our customers quickly and efficiently."
Hockenson was working at Sunrise Dairy when Hy Vee acquired the company in the early 1990s. He continued working there until 1996, when he moved to Cherokee and began working in distribution. He recently oversaw an almost $13 million expansion that added 230,000 square feet to the Cherokee facility. The expansion included a recycling room that will greatly reduce the amount of disposed waste.
Hockenson graduated from North Central High School in Manly, Iowa. He earned as associate's degree in computer technology from Des Moines Area Community College and a degree in criminal justice from North Iowa Area Community College.
He takes over for Fred Housman, who is retiring as vice president,
distribution, after 37 years with Hy-Vee.
