GHSC cross country girls place 4th

SPENCER - The Galva-Holstein/Schaller-Crestland cross country teams fared well at last week's Spencer Invitational, with the girls placing fourth in the rugged field, and the boys eighth.

Spirit Lake Park won the girls team title with 56 points, followed by Estherville-LC 72, Algona 79, GHSC 110, Spencer 123, Hull Western Christian 130, Le Mars 131, Emmetsburg 194, Storm Lake 280, and Cherokee 295.

Algona claimed the boys team crown with 35 points, followed by SLP 36, Le Mars 94, HWC 102, Spencer 112, Storm Lake 121, Emmetsburg 208, GHSC 223, and Cherokee, E-LC, and Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn not fielding full varsity squads.

Jessie Mathes led the GHSC Lady Pirates with an 8th-place finish in 17:06, followed by Katie Boyle 17th in 17:44, Ashley Drey 20th in 17:56, Meg Kofmehl 23rd in 18:06, Sarah Forristal 42nd in 19:17, Michaela Else 48th in 20:13, and Annie McAreavy 50th in 20:35.

Christan Egger led the GHSC boys, placing 32nd in 20:20, followed by Trevor Irwin 41st in 21:09, Josh Schwanz 49th in 22:12, Kyle Wessling 50th in 22:12, Rikey Cosgrove 51st in 22:47, and Jordan Bremer 52nd in 22:47.

In JV action for the GHSC girls, Sarah Rice was 6th in 19:06, Tami Bertrand 9th in 19:23, Rachel Hunt 10th in 19:24, Sarah Galvin 33rd in 21:05, Kate Mathes 45th in 21:54, Shelby Bennett 53rd in 22:25, Hailey Clark 62nd in 25:58, and Shelby Linton 64th in 32:19.

In JV boys for GHSC, Austin Bevers was 70th in 24:43, Jon Klotz 74th in 25:50, Michael Perrett 77th in 26:50, Ben Jerke 79th in 26:53, and Marc Meyer 85th in 29:22.

Katy Hart led the Cherokee Washington High girls, placing 49th in a time of 20.16, followed by Chyenne Mortenson 55th in 21.42, Stephanie Aguillar 62nd in 25.02, Abby Hayes 64th in 27.02, and Claudia Campuzano 65th in 27.04.

John Bieber led the Cherokee boys to the finish line, placing 53rd in 24.19, followed by Dan Rodgers 55th in 27.53, and Conner Ogren 56th in 29.53.
