MMC girls eke out 3-2 VB win

MARCUS - The Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn volleyball team got its season off on the right foot here Tuesday night, claiming a hard-fought 3-2 match over Remsen St. Mary's that went down to the wire.

The Eagles of coach Carla Weber won by game scores of 25-18, 25-19, 19-25, 16-25, 15-13.

Jalyn Doeden led MMC in hitting with a 29-36 effort and five kills, while Kayla Foresman was 26-30 with 10 kills, Erica Dreckman 19-21 with eight kills, and Jena Mittelstadt 11-15 with one kill.

Megan Deichman paced the Eagles in serving with 33-37 and seven aces, followed by Jackie Holmes 15-16 and one ace, Dreckman 12-14 and six aces, Rachel McDermott 8-10 and three aces, and Doeden 4-6 and one ace.

Deichman tallied 21 assists and Holmes had seven to lead that category for MMC. Doeden led in digs with 20, while Drecman had 19, Ashley Eber 14, and McDermott 12. Foresman led in blocks with nine, Stephanie Specht tallied four, and Mittlestadt anmd Schneider three apiece.

MMC plays in the Galva-Holstein Tournament Saturday and hosts Orange City Unity Christian Tuesday.
