CC-E sweeps Aurelia VB girls

Wednesday, September 9, 2009

AURELIA - The Aurelia girls started off slowly in their non-conference volleyball match against Clay Central-Everly here on Thursday night, suffering a 10-25 loss in the first set. They never did get quite on track, either, as they lost the next two sets by scores of 16-25 and 17-25, despite some moments of outstanding play.

Bulldog Coach Ann Gerdes-Dornack said she told the girls after the match that they "have the win in them, they just need to believe it themselves." Gerdes-Dornack added, "We have more to work on, but (we're) never giving up!"

Erin Laursen had three kills for the Bulldogs, with Stacie Glienke and Ashley Anderson adding one apiece. Heather Ballantyne and Stacie Glienke both assisted with the kills, with Heather contributing three assists and Stacie two.

Anderson had 16 playable digs and Shaina Thevenin had 13. Erin Laursen had six blocks, followed by Audrey Winterhof with four. Ashley Anderson led the team in serving with four ace serves, while Heather Ballantyne had two.

The Bulldogs host Ruthven-Ayrshire Thursday night.
