DUNLAP - The River Valley Wolverines traveled to Dunlap on Friday for a matchup with Boyer Valley in a non-district football game.
Boyer Valley got on the board first, in the opening stanza, then RV came back in the second quarter when Cody Paris scored on an eight-yard run to make it 7 -6. Boyer Valley clung to a one-point lead at the half, when RV's PAT attempt failed. Each team scored again in the third quarter, RV on a 33-yard run by Samuel Lundt, but RV failed to add the extra points on a failed two-point run, while Boyer Valley had a successful PAT attempt. That was it for River Valley, and Boyer Valley tacked on 13 more points in the 4th quarter to make the final score Boyer Valley 27, River Valley 12.
Lundt and Paris led the Wolverine rushing attack, with Lundt gaining 95 yards on 12 carries and Paris 83 yards on 19 carries. Blaine Cullen added 24 yards on five attempts. Andrew Volkert completed 5 of his 12 passing attempts for the Wolverines, good for 58 yards, and two of his attempts were intercepted. Austin Hansen caught three passes for 39 yards and Lundt caught two for 19 yards.
On defense, Paris made 16 tackles and Cullen and Lundt nine each. Hansen intercepted two Boyer Valley aerials, returning them for 25 yards, and Dylan Fluke also had an interception, with a 20-yard return. Tanner Cobb also recovered a fumble for River Valley.
The Wolverines open district play on Friday, when they host Kingsley-Pierson.
