HOLSTEIN - Buffalo Ridge clipped Newell-Fonda 13-12 in an exciting, non-district nail-biter here Friday night.
Bison quarterback Seth Johnson completed 10-23 passes for 145 yards, including eight to favorite receiver Blake Woodke for 117 yards and the team's two touchdowns.
Johnson also led the Buffalo Ridge ground game with 78 yards on 13 carries. Tyler Kenny rushed nine times for 35 yards, and Rtson Thorson one time for seven yards.
Kyle Dahm caught a Johnson pass for 15 yards, and Kris Alesch caught one for 13 yards.
Mustang quarterback Jacob Hess completed 7-12 passes for 148 yards, including three to Cody Wells for 106 yards and both of Newell-Fonda's TDs.
Brad Bohe led N-F on the ground with 17 carries for 104 yards, while Alan Gerdes rushed 17 times for 72 yards, Hess four times for 14 yards, and Robert Johnson six times for five yards. Bohe also caught four passes for 42 yards.
Christian Bondinello led the Bison on defense with 14 tackles, followed by Colby Stephens with 13, Andrew Stern 10, Thorson eight, and Michael Davidson eight.
Wells paced the Mustang defense with nine tackles, while Johnson and Blake Jesse tallied six each, and Bohe and Alex Vanderhoff five apiece.
Both teams recorded 15 firt downs in the competitive contest.
Buffalo Ridge (2-1) plays at Clarion-Goldfield Friday night to kick off 2A District play.
