MMC girls drop 3 tourney matches

HOLSTEIN - The Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn volleyball team dropped three matches to high-quality opponents at Saturday's Galva-Holstein Invitational here.

The Eagles of coach carla Weber lost 21-6, 21-7 to eventual tourney champion Carroll; 21-18, 21-9 to Odebolt-Arthur/Battle Creek-Ida Grove; and 21-18, 15-21, 11-15 to Woodbury Central.

Against Carroll, Jalyn Doeden led MMC in hitting with a 7-10 effort, while Erica Dreckman was 6-7 with one kill, Stephanie Specht 4-6, and Kayla Foresman 3-3 with two kills.

Ashley Weber led the Eagles in digs with six, Dreckman had four, and jackie Holmes three. Weber led her team serving with a 4-4 effort, and Megan Deichmann was 2-2.

Against OA-BCIG, Doeden led in hitting with a 9-11 effort and two kills, followed by Dreckman 7-11 and one kill, Foresman 5-6, and Schneider 4-5.

Dreckman tallied five digs and Weber four to lead that category. In serving, Doeden was 7-7 with two aces, Dreckman 7-8 with an ace, Holmes 6-6, and Deichmann 4-4.

In the tight battle against Woodbury Central, Foresman led MMC in hitting with a 21-26 performance and five kills, followed by Doeden 20-27 and one kill, Mittlestadt 7-10 and two kills, Deichmann 6-8 and one kill, and Schneider 6-8 and two kills.

Mittlestadt led her team in digs with nine, while Weber had eight, Doeden six, Dreckman five, and Deichmann four. Mittlestadt was tops in serving with 11-11 and two aces, followed by Deichmann 9-9, Weber 8-8 and three aces, Foresman 7-8 and two aces, Dreckman 6-6, and Doeden 3-5 and one ace.

MMC plays in the Dakota Valley Invitational in North Sioux City, S.D. Saturday.
