CRMC offers annual flu and pneumonia shots

Monday, September 14, 2009

Cherokee Regional Medical Center will be offering annual flu shots and pneumonia shots to interested individuals. Influenza ("the flu") is a serious virus that spreads from infected persons to the nose or throat of others.

Influenza can cause fever, cough, sore throat, headache, chills and muscle aches. Influenza vaccine is released in partial shipments to providers across the country as it becomes available from manufacturers. No shortage of the vaccine is expected this year however the CDC recommends not to delay getting the vaccination. CRMC is offering flu shots about four weeks earlier than last year, offering a jump start to building immunity to the virus. The H1N1 vaccine is not yet available.

Cherokee Regional Medical Center will be administering flu (for anyone three years of age or older) and pneumonia shots at the flu shot clinics listed below. The flu shot clinics are open to the general public. CRC Clinic patients are encouraged to utilize these flu shot clinics as a quick and convenient way to obtain the vaccination. The single best way to prevent the flu is to get a flu vaccine each fall.
