Aurelia girls split two net matches

Monday, September 14, 2009

The Aurelia girls played two volleyball matches last week. On Tuesday, the Bulldogs played Newell-Fonda in a Northwest Conference match in Newell, and lost 3 straight games. Bulldog Coach Ann Dornack said, "I would like to say that the girls played to win, but they did not." Game scores were 7-25, 11-25 and 16-25.

" Digging was done well, with 52, with Ashley Anderson with the most with 11," said Coach Dornack, "(but) we only had five total kills for the night. Blocking was great too, with 29 total." Shaina Thevenin and Erin Laursen each blocked six shots to lead the team in that department.

On a better note, Thursday night the girls played host to Ruthven-Ayrshire in a non-conference game, and, said Dornack, " Tonight was a good night. The girls played like I knew they could." The Bulldogs came back to win the match after losing the first game, 19-25, winning the next three games by scores of 25-14, 25-23, and 25-18. With 14 total kills for the night, the team was led by Ashley Anderson, Erin Laursen, and Audrey Winterhof with four kills apiece. The Bulldogs also had 76 total playable digs, led by Audrey Winterhof with 24 and Erin Laursen with 22. Ashley Anderson had eight ace serves, followed by Erin Laursen with four. Set assists were led by Stacie Glienke with five and Heather Ballantyne with four.

Coach Dornack concluded by saying, "Truly tonight was the best the girls played, proving it with the victory. I am proud of the teamwork and confidence the girls had tonight!"
