HOLSTEIN - The Lady Pirates of Coach Katie Tesch came in second at the Galva-Holstein/Schaller-Crestland Classic Cross Country Meet here on Saturday.
GHSC was led by Jessie Mathes, who placed 7th with a time of 17:28.96. Katie Boyle's time of 17:34.23 was good for 8th, Ashley Drey was 10th, in 17:45.21, Meg Kofmehl,19th (18:19.18) and Sarah Rice 21st (18:29.19). Rachel Hunt and Sarah Forristal also ran for the Lady Pirates.
GHSC scored 61 points, trailing Fort Dodge St. Edmond, which scored 47 points to take the team title. Sioux Central finished 3rd, with 88 points, while Gehlen Catholic was 4th (137) and Pocahontas Area/Pomeroy-Palmer rounded out the top five (158).
In the JV Girls competition, Bishop Heelan placed first, followed by St. Edmond and Galva-Holstein.
The Galva-Holstein varsity boys took 10th place in the Boys' team standings, scoring 238 points, as Woodbine finished first, South O'Brien 2nd, and St. Edmond 3rd, followed by Gehlen Catholic and Sioux Central. Christian Egger posted the best individual time for the Pirates, a 20:01.01, which placed him 33rd among the varsity boys runners. Trevor Irwin had a time of 20:17.05, Josh Schwanz a 20:47.98, Riley Cosgrove 20:58.19 and Jordan Bremer 22:02.26. Kyle Wessling also ran for the Pirates.
Josh Mohr, Austin Bevers, Ben Jerke, Michael Perrett and Marc Meyer ran for the GHSC JV boys, who placed 15th in the team standings.
Among Middle School competitors, GHSC's Jason Kinney was 2nd, running a time of 11:44.04, and Max Jerke and Jonah Kistenmacher also ran. For GHSC Middle School girls, Tonya Redenius was 21sr, in a time of 14:56.43, and Jayden Mohr, Lexie Johnson, Courtney Carstens and Emily Forristal also ran for GHSC.
