G-H girls are 1-2 at RC-L tourney

ROCKWELL CITY - The 8th-rated Galva-Holstein volleyball team finished 1-2 at the rugged Rockwell City-Lytton Tournament here Saturday, defeating Fort Dodge St. Edmond 21-11, 22-20; and losing 19-21, 17-21 to Alta; and fallng 9-21, 16-21 to East Sac County.

As a team, the Lady Pirates were 105-123 in hitting with 46 kills, and 94-103 serving with eight aces. G-H tallied 63 digs and 43 assists, along with 11 team blocks.

Brooke Wiese was kill leader for the Pirates with 17, and Shannon Rohlk totaled 10. Brea Slaybaugh led G-H in assists with 36, and Jaimie Christensen had 15.

Wiese also led in digs with 18, while Victoria Andresen notched 15. Nicole Boyle led in blocks with three, and Andresen was ace serve leader with four.

"At times we played well and at times we didn't play well during the day," said G-H coach Scott Mitchell. "For the most part, we competed throughout the day. We had some injuries that affected us, but we cannot use them as an excuse.

"We played well enough to win some games and did not pull them out. We need to find ways to persevere and make the plays, since we do not know how long the injuries will take to heal."

G-H (9-3) hosts Storm Lake Thursday, and plays in the Carroll Tournament Saturday.
