The Cherokee Police investigated a six-car accident on Monday at 5:12 p.m. at the corner of Bluff Street and US Highway 59.
A vehicle driven by Ryan L. Halverson, 32 of Cherokee was southbound on US Hwy 59 approaching the intersection of Bluff Street. According to reports, his two-year old son sitting in the back seat distracted Halverson. He looked behind him and as he did, he rear-ended a southbound vehicle driven by Brittany K. Simons, 23 of Meriden, who was in the same lane and stopped for the red light.
The Simons vehicle was then pushed into a vehicle driven by Paxton M. O'Connor, 18 of Cherokee. Simons was then pushed through the intersection and up onto the southwest corner of the intersection over the curb and sidewalk and in to the parking lot of Fareway.
Halverson's vehicle then traveled through the intersection, rode the right curb, striking a pole, and proceeded onto the sidewalk. His vehicle then struck a vehicle that was properly parked in the Fareway lot, owned by Leanne K. Hammer of Holstein. The Hammer vehicle then struck a fifth vehicle owned by David J. Peck of Cherokee, which in turn struck a sixth vehicle owned by David L. Enderlin of Cherokee. The Enderlin vehicle was also struck by Halverson's vehicle.
Halverson and his son were transported to Cherokee Regional Medical Center. Halverson was cited with following too close.
Simons was transported to the hospital by a CRMC ambulance. The Cherokee County Sheriff's Department and the Cherokee Fire and Rescue assisted the Cherokee Police at the scene.
