Rated Westerners turn back MMC

MARCUS - The 5th-rated Akron-Westfield football team shelled Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn 48-6 in District action here Friday night to run its record to 3-0 for the season.

Christopher Carlson rushed 10 times for 120 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Westerners. His teammate Ben Wolthuizen carried the ball seven times for 69 yards and three TDs, and fullback Tanner Bundy rushed 24 times for 108 yards and one TD.

John Hoefling caught three passes for 72 yards and on TD to pace the MMC offese. Eagle quarterback Jesse Kunzweiler was 2-6 passing for 72 yards, and Neal Bunt was 2-2 passing for 17 yards for the Eagles.

Kunzweiler rushed 12 times for a minus 25 yards, while Russ Godbersen rushed four times for 25 yards, Zach Specht three times for seven yards, and Bunt 2 for minus eight yards, as MMC couldn't get the run game going against the stout Westerner defense.

Hoefling led the MMC defense with 13 tackles, followed by Bunt eight, and Godbersen, Ethan Radtke, and Ben Hueser six apiece. Tyler Prunty had five tackles, and Andrew Hoefling four.

MMC (0-3) hosts dangerous Algona Garrigan in District action in Marcus Friday night.
