Rated Westerners rip River Valley

AKRON - Undefeated and fifth-ranked Akron-Westfield hammered River Valley 48-0 in Class A District football action here Friday night.

The Wolverines could get nothing going on offense throughout as the 4-0 Westerners tallied seven touchdowns, including six on the ground to pocket the win and keep the Wolverines winless (0-4) on the year.

Cody Paris led River Valley's rushing effort with 10 carries for 37 yards, and quarterback Andrew Volkert was 3-15 passing for 40 yards. Austin Hansen caught two passes for RV for 19 yards, and Brody Riedemann caught one for 19 yards against the A-W defensive onslaught.

Paris also led the Wolverines on defense with 14 tackles, followed by Billy Pansegrau, Riedemann, and Volkert figuring in on eight tackles each.

Christopher Carlson rushed 18 times for 143 yards and two TDs to pace A-W, while Tanner Bundy rushed four times for 27 yards and two TDs. Also rushing for TDs for the winners were Eric Eskra and Mitchell Hedlund, who carried the ball 16 times for 66 yards.

Alex Frankl caught two passes for 40 yards and a TD for A-W, with QB Eskra completing 6-6 passes for 73 yards in the game.

River Valley travels to Southeast Webster Grand Friday night for more District action.
