Children's Library Corner -
It's hard to believe that summer is officially over and the first day of fall, Tuesday, Sept. 22, is upon us. Mother Nature didn't waste any time in letting us know that a new season has begun with the cool temperatures and leaves on the trees starting to turn brilliant bright colors.
So get on your sweatshirts or fall coats and go play in a pile of leaves. That was always something I looked forward to when I was growing up. In fact, I still like walking on a path of fallen leaves. When you're done playing in the leaves and enjoying the outdoors come to the Cherokee Public Library to relax and read a good book or check out a good book to take home and read. We also have DVDs, Videos, books on tape, puzzles, and magazines that can be checked out.
The Youth and Children's Department have started our programs for several different age groups.
Every Tuesday the Preschool Story Time will run from 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. This program is for children three to five year olds. During this half hour the children will listen to stories, sing songs, participate in finger plays, and have fun. Crafts will be a part of the program if there is time and it goes with the story time.
The After School Bunch will meet on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month from 3:45 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. Children in kindergarten through 4th grade are welcome to come. Those interested in coming need to ride school bus #3, also known as the IC bus, and you will be dropped off in front of the library.
Wednesday, Sept. 9 the Homeschoolers @ the Library group met from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. The families discussed some topics and ideas they would like to do as a group. Field trips to different businesses and community happenings were a part of that discussion. Our next meeting will be Wednesday, Oct. 14 from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. The meeting is open to anyone who is homeschooling and would like the chance to share ideas and materials with other Home Schooling families. The library has magazines to help with ideas and many books to use and check out.
Thursday, Sept. 10 from 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. will be our first Toddler Story Time. This is open to parents and their one or two year old children. Moms and dads this will be a chance to spend some special time with your child through stories, learning rhymes to use at home with your child, and games you can play with them when changing the diaper, getting them dressed, or feeding them. So come and discover some new ways to interact with your child. Our next Toddler Story Time will be Thursday, Oct. 8 from 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m.
There has been enough interest in the Youth in Action Program for 5th through 6th graders that we will meet after school on Thursday, Sept. 24 from 3:45 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. They will finish their tessellation art projects and discuss a new name for the group. Those interested in coming need to ride school bus #3, also known as the IC bus, and you will be dropped off in front of the library. The group will meet twice a month on the 1st and 3rd Thursday from 3:45 p.m. to 4:45 p.m.
All of these programs will meet in the youth story time room in the children's department upstairs.
I look forward to seeing everyone. If you have any questions you can call the library at 225-3498 and ask for Peg, the Children's and Youth Librarian.
