Starting this weekend, at the Cherokee Depot's annual Fall Family Fest, you will be able to purchase a chance at winning this handmade quilt, with all the proceeds going to the Depot Group. This 90-inch by 65-inch quilt was started by Donna Waterbury, right, who found images of trains and train crossings and transferred them onto fabric that she used for the quilt squares. She then decorated the quilt using red and dark blue for the outlines of the quilt blocks. Waterbury then turned the quilt over to Betty Nafe, middle, who hand- quilted the images, tied it, and backed the binding.
Waterbury began this project a couple of years ago, and one day asked her husband, Richard Waterbury, if he thought Jim Adamson, left, of ]Depot Renovation, Inc. would be interested in this train - themed quilt. Richard then talked to Adamson, and the idea of a raffle soon materialized. According to Adamson, the raffle will last until Christmas, when a winner will be drawn. Photo by Mike Leckband
