ALTA - Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn cross country runners competed at the Alta Invitational here on Monday, and several Eagle runners ran good mid-season times to earn high places.

Jay Welp earned second place in the varsity boys' competition, as the junior ran the course in 16:28.

Sophomore Anna Wilcox was 20th in the varsity girls' competition with a time of 18:43.

MMC had several girls run in JV competition, led by Kelsey Sears, who took first place with her time of 18:23. Alissa McDermott earned a 10th place medal with her time of 20:18, and teammate Madison Johnson finished 11th, fifteen seconds after McDermott. Both runners are freshmen. Also competing for the Eagles, who scored 55 team points, were Christina Wilkens, Kelsey Brady, Jeri Welp, Casey Wirth and Jill Addison.

Sophomore Jacob Pearson earned a 7th place medal in JV boys' competition, running a time of 20:28, and Tyrel Godberson and Justin Cave also ran for the Eagles.

Eagle coach Ric Collins said that though his team's times improved in this meet, he feels his runners "need more miles to reach our goals."

The Eagles' next competition is on October 6, when they run at the Kingsley-Pierson Invitational.
